I am deeply frustrated by the continued levels of gender inequality in our Australian wine community, and I am writing to you today to demand immediate action from INSERT INDUSTRY OR REGIONAL BODY HERE.
Our vibrant wine industry should be a beacon of equality, yet women continue to face barriers in representation, pay, and leadership roles. The time for talk and rhetoric is over. It’s time to act decisively.
As you may be aware, the Australian Women in Wine National Symposium recently took place in Sydney, INSERT “WHICH I ATTENDED” IF YOU WERE THERE. As part of the day, delegates discussed, put forward and then voted on the top actions we want to see taken immediately by our industry leaders. The results are, in order of priority:
- An industry-wide strategy with accountability measures in place
- Funding for Australian Women In Wine and/or a full-time Diversity, Equality and Inclusion position
- Mentoring program available in every wine region
Our community expects urgent and meaningful action from our industry leaders. I look forward to your prompt response outlining your stance and the actions you will take to further these goals.
