Meet the Finalists: Workplace Champion of Change 2018

The fight for gender equality needs champions. So we think the Workplace Champion of Change Award is very important indeed. This award is open to both women AND men, and also whole businesses, and recognises exceptional championship of gender equality and diversity in the workplace.

This award is proudly sponsored by

Darryn Hakof, Pernod-Ricard Winemakers

Darryn Hakof is the Global Marketing Director for Pernod Ricard who now leads the winemaker’s diversity and inclusion “Better Balance” strategy. Its goal is to achieve a minimum of 40% female representation within leadership roles by 2020. To that end, an Ambassador Network championing behavioural and cultural change has been implemented. A toolkit was created to launch the strategy and supported by workshops that provided employees with an opportunity to speak openly on issues that affected them.
The company reports to be now well on its way to meeting its 40% target.

Lara Simic, Winestate Publishing

As Managing Editor of Winestate Publishing, Lara has instigated a number of gender-friendly policies including more flexible work arrangements, and managing parental leave for female staff members both during pregnancy and after.
She fully supports pay equity and during her time with the publishing house has overseen an important workforce re-alignment from a largely male-dominated organisation to a more inclusive, forward-looking one. Winestate magazine is believed to now have the greatest number of female contributors of any wine magazine in Australia and New Zealand

Zonte’s Footstep, McLaren Vale

After witnessing the effects of domestic violence and the crucial role that a workplace can play in the ability of someone to remove themselves from long-term domestic abuse, Zonte’s Footstep has worked towards greater awareness of the issue.
Two years ago it became aware of White Ribbon Accreditation and began the process of achieving workplace accreditation. This is a world-first program aimed at providing the tools for businesses to respond to incidents of violence whether it occurs inside or outside the workplace.

The winners of the 2018 Australian Women in Wine Awards will be announced at a ceremony in Sydney on Friday 16 November 2018 at 2pm AEDST (that’s 11am WA, 1pm Queensland and 1:30pm in SA).

The ceremony will be streamed LIVE  via the Australian Women in Wine Facebook Page.
